Five-star Hopewell running back TreVeyon Henderson gives the 2021 Texas football recruiting class a next target to zero in on.

There’s going to be a lack of overall activity on the recruiting trail in all of college sports for a while. All of the precautions put in place around the United States has basically put the sports world on pause for the time being. And the 2021 Texas football recruiting class is going to be impacted just as much as the next team or the next college sports program.

Given the recent halt in visits in the college recruiting landscape, the Texas Longhorns football program also had to put their recruiting process on pause. Spring camp looks like it will be shut down, as will the Orange-White Game that was originally scheduled for late April.

Texas recently did get some good news, though, on the recruiting trail in the midst of all the COVID-19 precautions and outbreak with an elite 2021 running back prospect. Hopewell High School product and five-star Virginia native running back TreVeyon Henderson was the source of the good news for the Longhorns.

Henderson dropped his nine finalist schools on his Twitter timeline on March 16, giving the Longhorns football fan base at least one thing to be excited about this week. This might seem like a wide range, but at least Texas is finding some success in recruiting five-star talent off the east coast.

This is a time when uncommitted 2021 prospects that are getting a lot of national attention, like Henderson, might be dropping their finalist school lists. They definitely have a good amount of time to reflect on where they feel they fit best in college.

The other eight schools that Henderson included among his finalists were the Virginia Cavaliers, Virginia Tech Hokies, Oklahoma Sooners, Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, North Carolina Tar Heels, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Michigan Wolverines. The Big 12, Big Ten, and ACC all had significant presences among his finalist schools.

There are three 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions in for Henderson. One is cloudy, one is for Ohio State, and the other goes to the Clemson Tigers. Since Clemson wasn’t included amid his latest finalist school cut, they look to be out of the mix.

Moreover, Henderson ranks as the nation’s No. 17 2021 high school prospect and the second best running back. He’s also a top three prospect out of Virginia. Henderson is one of a number of elite running backs Texas is trying to pursue for their 2021 recruiting class. The other name to watch at the position namely is five-star Garland standout Camar Wheaton.
