The NCAA Transfer Portal is stocked full of depth for the Texas football program to look into at offensive tackle. But who should they zero in on?

The next edition of the 2020 NCAA Transfer Portal Big Board for the Texas football program during the offseason is also the first that includes a transfer out of the Forty Acres. Texas lost an offensive tackle to the transfer portal earlier this offseason, with rising senior JP Urquidez leaving the program.

But Texas is in good position to recover the depth from that loss to the transfer portal. Texas has a lot of options in the transfer portal at offensive tackle. This might even be a deeper position group in the transfer portal than offensive guard is. Offensive tackle also has more proven and talented transfer candidates in quantity than guard.

However, what Texas has to be careful of is recruiting the right fit to the program. Texas did a much better job finding a quality fit with the rest of their personnel when they landed former Rice Owls offensive tackle Calvin Anderson in 2018, than they did with former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets guard Parker Braun in 2019.

The problems for fit between Braun and Texas did stem beyond the scouting of the positional need by the coaching staff. Braun fit into an offensive line that was decimated by injuries at times last season and was just downright young and inconsistent in the face of the trying Big 12 slate.

Once again, Texas will have a talented group that also has a lot of young depth. There is still a long way to go for these offensive tackles to make full strides this fall.

Here’s a look into the NCAA Transfer Portal Big Board at the offensive tackle position for the Texas Longhorns football program during the 2020 offseason.
