In the end, how will the possible cancellation of spring camp for the Texas football program impact the remainder of the 2020 offseason?

Given that the Texas football program is going to, in all likelihood, have the entirety of its spring camp and Orange-White Game cancelled out due to the novel coronavirus scare what is to come during the 2020 offseason?

Texas already has all of their students off campus and a recent official press release from the university on March 17 shows that classes are going to be moved online for the remainder of the spring semester. That means that there’s little to no chance that Texas will be holding spring practice for football or the annual Orange-White Game, originally scheduled for April 25.

Moreover, each of the Big 12 athletic directors are scheduled to meet (per report from Austin-American Statesman) on March 18 that could include the discussion of cancelling spring football across the board. The cancellation of spring football would mean no early spring drills for the early enrollees from Texas’ highly touted 2020 signing class along with no Orange-White Game next month.

While all these precautions are more than necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in and around the city of Austin, it is a shame that a promising 2020 football season has its offseason leading up to it placed on hold for the time being. Texas is likely to be a preseason top 20 ranked team in both the AP and Coaches Poll.

Although, the playing field is leveled since the SEC already announced that its round of spring football for the 14 programs in that conference will be cancelled. Texas’ Week 2 opponent this fall, the defending National Champion LSU Tigers, announced their cancellation of the spring game a while back.

Here’s a look into three major ways that the potential cancellation of spring camp could impact the Texas Longhorns football program this offseason.
