Texas Football: 3 NCAA Transfer Portal Longhorns DT targets
A next position up for the 2020 NCAA Transfer Portal Big Board during the 2020 offseason for the Texas football program is defensive tackle.
The Big 12 looks like it could be cancelling spring camp for programs across the board, including Texas football. Even though this is a move that still levels the playing field around the Big 12, Texas had a lot it needed to accomplish in spring camp this year. As Texas hopes to keep moving in the right direction this offseason, despite the potential cancellation of spring football, they could turn to the NCAA Transfer Portal to continue to fill positional voids on either side of the ball.
After completing the offensive line big board for Texas in the transfer portal, we can now turn the attention to the other side of the ball. Texas did already lose a couple of experienced senior defensive linemen to the transfer portal earlier in the offseason. They could turn the transfer portal into a two-way street to make up for that loss of depth in the trenches.
Texas lost a pair of defensive tackles each with significant game experience in various roles between defense and special teams, between Gerald Wilbon and D’Andre Christmas-Giles. Both Wilbon and Christmas-Giles wound up putting their names in the transfer portal on the same day. Those were two of the more considerable losses to the transfer market for Texas so far this offseason.
Where can Texas recover some of this depth from?
And where could they look if they actually want to mould this defense closer to what we should be expecting out of the scheme from recently hired defensive coordinator Chris Ash?
Here’s a look into the 2020 NCAA Transfer Portal big board for the Texas Longhorns football program at the defensive tackle position.
