The most proven defensive tackle on this list that the Texas football program could go after (who’s played in 32 games in his career thus far) is the Stanford Cardinal to-be redshirt senior Jovan Swann. The 6-foot-2 and 275 pound fifth-year defensive line anchor might be the most coveted transfer prospect left on the open market at this position.

If the Longhorns are looking to fill any void that head coach Tom Herman and Ash would have in the middle of the defensive line, then the first name on their shortlist should be Swann. He’s not the most highly touted recruit that the Longhorns could find among this crop of defensive tackles, but he is the most proven.

What Swann could bring with him to the Forty Acres is 83 career total tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, one interception, two pass deflections, and one fumble recovery. The best individual season for Swann under head coach David Shaw with Stanford came last fall, as he tied his career-best in sacks in an individual season and registered overall career highs in tackles for loss and total tackles.

Swann finished his 2019 campaign with Stanford on a high-note, as he had seven tackles for loss and four sacks in his final six games.

But Swann is a native of Greenwood, IN, and a product of Center Grove High School. He was the usual example of a gem find for the Stanford coaching staff on the recruiting trail. Swann ranked as the nation’s No. 657 2016 high school prospect and the No. 46 defensive tackle.

The most significant offers he held out of high school came from the Indiana Hoosiers, Northwestern Wildcats, Boston College Eagles, Iowa Hawkeyes, Michigan State Spartans, Mizzou Tigers, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Virginia Cavaliers.
