Texas Football: 3 NCAA Transfer Portal Longhorns DT targets
The under-the-radar transfer candidate that the Texas football program could go after at the defensive tackle position this offseason is a player that was recently let go from the Wyoming Cowboys. To-be senior Wyoming nose tackle Javaree Jackson is one of the weird stories within Group of Five proven transfer candidates in the portal at the moment.
Jackson was indefinitely suspended from the Wyoming program at the conclusion of their 2019 regular season. But a Casper Star Tribune report showed that Jackson didn’t have his name show up in court or legal documents soon thereafter, even though he was suspended from the team. Depending on the severity of his suspension, Jackson could still be worth bringing in and giving a second chance.
This 6-foot-5 and 280 pound nose tackle and Milwaukee, WI, native ranked as the nation’s No. 3,752 2016 high school prospect and the No. 171 strong-side defensive end. Jackson is truly an example of a underrated prospect that Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl was able to develop quickly and help make an impact for his defense in each of the last three seasons.
Last season, Jackson racked up 35 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. That helped Jackson to tally up 71 total tackles and 8.5 tackles for loss in his three-year career thus far with Wyoming.
The only offer that Jackson had coming out of high school came from Wyoming. His Rivals recruiting profile shows that he did have some interest at least from the FCS North Dakota State Bison and the Wisconsin Badgers.
