Moving to the next position group for the NCAA Transfer Portal Big Board for the Texas football program this offseason, defensive end is the priority.

The next edition of the 2020 NCAA Transfer Portal Big Board for the Texas football program comes at a time when the coaching staff can really take their time to figure out where they need to plug positional needs this offseason. Head coach Tom Herman and recently hired defensive coordinator Chris Ash have a lot of work to do, though, since spring camp is very likely to be called off in the midst of the novel coronavirus precautions.

Texas will have an interesting shift along the defensive line now under the direction of the former Rutgers head coach Ash, with more size and strength. Ash likes to have a lot of power holding up in the trenches, but he needs his linemen to have a lot of endurance and a high-motor. While his defensive schemes aren’t overwhelmingly complicated, they can take a while to get adjusted to.

That’s why the potential cancellation of spring football could be so costly to Texas in the trenches as they get used to all the new faces along the coaching staff behind Herman. Texas needed those practice reps, and it will put a lot of pressure on the coaches to get it right in summer workouts and especially fall camp.

Get it wrong or undergo costly injuries like they did last year, and Texas will be facing a true uphill battle this fall.

Here’s a look into the 2020 NCAA Transfer Portal Big Board for the Texas Longhorns football program during the 2020 offseason at the defensive end position.
