Texas Football: 3 NCAA Transfer Portal OLB Longhorns targets
What to do for head coach Tom Herman and the Texas football program with a player that is as multiple and athletic as the Washington State Cougars linebacker/running back Dominick Silvels? Washington State tried to make the best use out of Silvels last year, converting him from outside linebacker to running back during the offseason.
But the Spokesman Review reported last year that Silvels put his name into the transfer portal after missing the entirety of the 2019 season due to “personal issues”. Silvels was supposed to be an immediate impact addition to a rather thin running back room last season under former head coach Mike Leach.
The writing was on the wall for Silvels to officially leave Pullman once Leach bolted to join the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the SEC West. Before that time, Silvels racked up 25 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 4.0 sacks, all during the 2018 season. Silvels was truly a breakout pass rusher during that solid 2018 campaign.
I do try to include at least one underrated find in the transfer portal at each position on this Longhorns big board. But this one does really dig deep, since Silvels could be a good fit on the Forty Acres from multiple levels. He’s versatile enough to make an impact in multiple spots for Herman and he’s proven his linebacker capability in the past.
