The lone target of the Texas football program in the transfer portal at linebacker that has reported interest with the coaching staff thus far is the former North Dakota State Bisons star Jabril Cox. A report from The Athletic said that staffers from the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida State Seminoles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Tennessee Volunteers, etc. along with Texas were hot on his trail.

The career stat line for Cox is very impressive, even if it came at the FCS level. He has nearly 260 career total tackles, 32.0 tackles for loss, 14.0 sacks, six interceptions, 18 pass deflections, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries. Two of his interceptions during his career at North Dakota State were returned for touchdowns too.

Coming out of Raytown South High School in Kansas City, MO, the 6-foot-3 and 230 pound Cox was ranked outside the top 3,000 2016 high school prospects in the nation. Most of his offer sheet was comprised of FCS schools like North Dakota State. Other offers came from Northern Iowa, Illinois State, South Dakota, and Western Illinois.

As one of the hotter commodities in the transfer portal at the moment, Cox is going to likely take his time to figure out where he’ll take his talents next. The two-time Phil Steele, Associated Press, and HERO Sports All-American honoree is about as accomplished as an FCS player will get before trying to take his talents to the next level of college football.
