A very solid addition to the 2021 Texas football recruiting class could come from four-star Marcus pro-style quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.

A key target of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class, four-star Flower Mound-Marcus pro-style quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, apparently has a potential decision date coming up soon. Nussmeier is a quarterback prospect that head coach Tom Herman and recently hired offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich are still going after despite already landing the commitment of four-star Katy Tompkins dual-threat signal caller Jalen Milroe in their 2021 recruiting class.

Nussmeier will reportedly (Horns247 paid content) still set out to make his commitment decision on April 18, but all of the stuff going on with the outbreak of novel coronavirus might change things. The Texas Longhorns football program could definitely be among those that could use the good news from landing a pledge as highly touted as Nussmeier, though.

Here’s what Nussmeier had to say to 247Sports in that piece that dropped earlier this week.

"“I think the 18th might still be a go,” the blue-chipper told 247Sports Saturday. “I might push it back and go through the visits like I planned."

The four schools that Nussmeier would be visiting if he were to push back his decision and take a more patient approach would be the Arizona State Sun Devils, Miami Hurricanes, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas. One program that stands out in the pursuit of Nussmeier but wasn’t one on that list of visits that he would take if he pushes his decision back was the defending National Champion LSU Tigers.

But Nussmeier had a visit with LSU prior to the dead period and when all recruiting visits were shut down anyway in the midst of COVID-19 spread. So while LSU should still be at the top of his mind, he might want to see what those other four schools  have to offer once visits resume.

Moreover, Nussmeier ranks as the nation’s No. 104 2021 high school prospect and the No. 10 pro-style quarterback. The 6-foot-1.5 and 182 pound Flower Mound, TX, native also ranks as the No. 16 prospect out of the state of Texas.

Other significant schools that Nussmeier holds on his offer sheet thus far includes the Baylor Bears, North Carolina Tar Heels, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan State Spartans, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Penn State Nittany Lions, and TCU Horned Frogs. He holds 30 schools on his offer sheet overall.

The offer that Nussmeier received from Texas A&M in the first place came just back on March 19. It seems like something that Nussmeier holds in high regard in his mind is how early various programs sent him a scholarship offer. His offer from Texas came back on Jan. 24.
