There’s still a lot of room to grow for the former three-star recruit and Ole Miss Rebels to-be sophomore cornerback Deantre Prince. But Prince was one of the true standout cornerbacks in the nation among true freshmen. The 6-foot and 170 pound Charleston, MS, native should be one of the more hotly contested names in the transfer portal this offseason.

Prince threw his name into the transfer portal after there was a switch in coaching regimes in Oxford. Ole Miss alumni and former head coach Matt Luke would be replaced after the Rebels lost their regular season finale game to their hated in-state rival Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Egg Bowl on a missed extra-point attempt. He was replaced by the polarizing former Florida Atlantic Owls head coach Lane Kiffin.

Last season, Prince raked in 25 total tackles, two interceptions, and two pass deflections. There were occasions where Prince would get beat by athletic SEC opposing wide receivers. But there are early indications of how good his ball skills could be down the line.

The Charleston High School product ranked as the nation’s No. 449 2019 high school prospect and the No. 27 athlete. He had some impressive offers coming out of high school including the Michigan Wolverines, Auburn Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Texas A&M, and Georgia. Texas was not one of the schools to offer him, but should be one of those to pursue him in the transfer portal if they want to add depth at the cornerback position.
