There were a ton of talented guards that the Longhorns got to face in Big 12 play during the 2019-20 regular season. But one that sticks out among the rest of the pack is the former TCU Horned Frogs starting senior combo guard Desmond Bane. Although, for some reason a 6-foot-6 guard like Bane didn’t give the Longhorns as much trouble last season as Diallo did.

In two meetings against Bane and the Horned Frogs, the Longhorns saw him post just 25 points combined on around 35 percent shooting from the field. The Longhorns also swept the season series against TCU. Among the teams that spent a good portion of the regular season on the bubble for Selection Sunday, Texas rolled through TCU easier than really anyone else.

Bane played in 32 games during his senior campaign while averaging 16.6 points per game, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.5 steals, while shooting 45.2 percent from the field, 44.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.9 percent from the charity stripe. The fact that Texas was able to hold Bane in check like they did was very impressive.

The combination of outside shooting abilities with two-way potential given his gifted physical tools as a combo guard makes Bane a solid underrated NBA Draft prospect. He’s not likely to be a first round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft due to his age and limited ability to create his own looks, along with his offensive inconsistencies against better defenses during his time with TCU.
