The latest round of cuts for three-star Austin, TX, native tight end Lake McRee still included the 2021 Texas football recruiting class.

A target of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class that was originally committed but then rescinded is three-star Lake Travis tight end Lake McRee. Texas has the commitment of the 6-foot-4 Everman athlete/tight end Juan Davis already in the 2021 recruiting class, so that could’ve played a role in losing McRee earlier in this cycle.

There still seems like a good possibility of getting the pledge back from McRee to the Texas Longhorns football program and the 2021 recruiting class. Texas could use as much depth as they can get in the 2021 recruiting class at the tight end position.

On March 29, McRee dropped an updated list of his top 10 finalist schools. The Longhorns were still included among his finalists. This list of finalist schools looked eerily similar to his last round of cuts. But it’s good that the Longhorns are still staying squarely in the thick of his finalists.

The other nine finalists included the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers, Michigan State Spartans, Penn State Nittany Lions, Purdue Boilermakers, TCU Horned Frogs, Washington Huskies, and the USC Trojans. The Longhorns are just one of two Big 12 schools left in the running to land McRee.

As of March 30, McRee held two dozen schools on his offer sheet. The offers likely won’t be coming in too frequently for McRee this offseason since he’s had his sights set on these finalist schools for a while now. But his recruitment apparently remains open, so there’s no way to tell for sure.

Other schools that McRee cut on the way to arriving at his latest finalist list included the Baylor Bears, Iowa State Cyclones, North Carolina Tar Heels, SMU Mustangs, Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Utah Utes. The last three offers McRee received came from three finalist schools including LSU, Penn State, and Michigan State.

The 6-foot-4 and 217 pound McRee ranks as the nation’s No. 461 2021 high school prospect, No. 19 tight end, and No. 61 prospect out of Texas. He’s a native of Austin, TX, and missed his junior season at Lake Travis due to a knee injury.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions still have three out of four experts picking McRee to commit to Texas. The other remains as cloudy. Rivals FutureCast also gives the overwhelming lead to land McRee’s pledge to the Longhorns.
