Maybe the best individual season from a quarterback in the history of the Texas football program came from Vince Young in that magical 2005 run.

In a time of hardship, like pretty much every country is going through around the world right now due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, there are always joyous occasions to look back in that provide an escape for people. For fans of the Texas football program, the 2006 Rose Bowl/BCS National Championship Game is an escape from the current situation at hand.

In the 2006 Rose Bowl game, the Texas Longhorns football program was able to down the USC Trojans by the final score of 41-38. Former star quarterback Vince Young spun a gem down the stretch in the second half against USC. He tallied up 467 total yards and three rushing touchdowns with no interceptions.

Former Texas head coach Mack Brown is obviously very high on what VY brought to the table too.

In a Tweet from Brown on March 30, he very easily summed up how he feels about VY. A list of the top 10 quarterback recruits of all-time and the best Big 12 recruits for each team since the turn of the century had VY at the top of both. He ranked just ahead of the 2004 Oklahoma Sooners running back signee Adrian Peterson and 2007 West Virginia Mountaineers running back Noel Devine as the best out of the Big 12 since 2000.

In terms of quarterbacks recruiting rankings, VY ranked ahead of 2018 Clemson Tigers signee Trevor Lawrence and 2018 Georgia Bulldogs signee Justin Fields.

It is pretty crazy that Lawrence and Fields came from the same recruiting cycle, though. That was  a loaded 2018 recruiting class at the quarterback position. But Fields is starring for the Ohio State Buckeyes now instead of Georgia.

Those lists were dropped by Fox Sports earlier this week, in which Brown responded to on Twitter.

Brown coached VY and the Longhorns to a perfect 13-0 record in 2005, which helped them claim their last national title to date. In his coaching career with Texas, Brown held a record of 158-58. He got that one national title during his tenure with the Longhorns. There were two national title game appearances for Brown during his 16 years with Texas.

Moreover, Brown is currently back in the college football coaching realm. He is entering his second year with the North Carolina Tar Heels, which is where his coaching career took off prior to his stint with Texas.
