Texas Football: Latest BR NFL Mock Draft has Devin Duvernay to Titans
The last Bleacher Report 2020 NFL Draft mock-up to be released by Matt Miller had former Texas football WR Devin Duvernay landing in the third round.
In the latest 2020 NFL Mock Draft from Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, which was released back on April 1, saw a few players out of the Texas football program selected. But Texas didn’t have all that many former players going early on in this mock draft from Bleacher Report. There wasn’t a single selection out of Texas in the first or second round of this mock draft.
The earliest selection in this mock draft out of the Texas Longhorns football program was former senior breakthrough wide receiver Devin Duvernay, who went in the third round (93rd overall) to the Tennessee Titans. Miller had Duvernay falling to the Titans in a sequence in two straight wide receivers picked in the third round. He had the Baltimore Ravens selecting former UCF Knights wideout Gabriel Davis 92nd overall in the third round.
The next former Longhorn that was selected in Miller’s mock up that was released on April Fool’s Day was former senior starting safety Brandon Jones, to the Detroit Lions in the fourth round (109th overall). Later on in the fourth round of this mock, fellow Texas wide receiver Collin Johnson went 130th overall to the New Orleans Saints.
Then to round out this mock draft among the former Longhorns, Miller had the New England Patriots picking defensive end Malcolm Roach with the 241st overall pick in the seventh round. He was the last Longhorn selected among the four in this mock.
Beyond all the first round picks in this mock draft, there wasn’t an explanation given for why head coach Mike Vrabel and the Titans would pick up Duvernay in the third round. But Duvernay would add a speedier receiver to an already potent offense by all indications at the end of the 2019 season.
The Titans made a large investment in former Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Ryan Tannehill at the outset of the offseason. And it looks like they’re currently working on a longer-team deal with former Alabama Crimson Tide Heisman-winning running back Derrick Henry.
Duvernay would also be joining a Titans receiving corps that would also include former Ole Miss Rebel A.J. Brown and Western Michigan Bronco Corey Davis. That would be one of the most talented and promising young receiving corps if Duvernay was added to the mix in this year’s draft.
