Texas Football: 3 players still most likely to transfer this offseason
While any number of players out of the Texas football program could see their names hit the NCAA Transfer Portal, these three could stick out.
Given all that has gone on in the sports world of late, piecing together the depth chart for the Texas football program is something that will need to wait. Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, spring camp for Texas (as well as pretty much every college football program in the nation) was cancelled out.
But two persisting storylines for Texas that will occur throughout this dead period from the COVID-19 outbreak will be what happens on the recruiting trail and what happens with the NCAA Transfer Portal. Additions and commitments from the transfer portal is something that is definitely still ongoing throughout the COVID-19 spread.
Texas already lost a handful of key players to the transfer portal this offseason, and a few others that didn’t mean as much to the depth situation. Losing out on players like offensive tackle Denzel Okafor and defensive tackle Gerald Wilbon hurt more than losing the likes of defensive tackle D’Andre Christmas-Giles and cornerback Donovan Duvernay.
What other names from Texas could show up in the transfer portal in what should be the ongoing spring practice?
Texas’ players have more time to think out their situation now, which could end up in more immediate transfers than would happen otherwise. Summer workouts will be the next time that this team could be together on campus in Austin.
Here’s a look into the three players out of the Texas Longhorns football program that could still be transferring at this point of the offseason, during the lag period from the COVID-19-induced pause in sports.
