3. Kobe Boyce, Cornerback

There was a time when the coaching staff gave cornerback Kobe Boyce a chance to make an impact last season, but that should slim down this coming season. The 6-foot-1 and 180 pound Boyce was one of the team leaders actually in pass deflections last season, with five, and that came in just seven games played.

However, Boyce was able to make little impact in other phases of the game, and he still showed a lot of the same problem that he did in year’s past. Boyce is still overplaying a lot of his opposing wide receivers and getting beat deep too often. That was a problem for him since his true freshman campaign, back in 2017.

In 13 career games played over the course of three years in the burnt orange, Boyce racked up 32 total tackles, no tackles for loss, one interception, seven pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. But he managed just six of his 32 career total tackles over the course of those seven games played last season.

In terms of getting drowned out on the depth chart, there might not be a worse case of it for any third or fourth year player that had a significant role last season than Boyce at cornerback. The redshirt junior is likely going to be behind the likes of Jalen Green, Kenyatta Watson II, D’shawn Jamison, and Josh Thompson this year.
