The 2021 Texas football recruiting class found out yet another target put them among his latest round of finalist cuts on April 3.

The trending matter right now in this news cycle is the 2021 and 2022 Texas football recruiting classes sending out a number of scholarship offers and key targets narrowing down their finalist lists on social media. Texas has got some good news for various 2021 prospects dropping them in their finalist lists of late.

The latest 2021 recruiting target of the Texas Longhorns football program to drop them in his finalist list of schools was three-star Bloomingdale cornerback Philip Riley. The defensive backfield could use some help in the 2021 recruiting class at the cornerback position too.

Recently hired Texas cornerbacks coach Jay Valai is doing well on the recruiting trail right now. He hasn’t landed a defensive back commitment yet, but it looks like his chances are really starting to increase to do so this offseason. Valai definitely has ample time at the moment due to the novel coronavirus pandemic-induced in-person recruiting contact dead period that lasts through May 31.

The 6-foot and 190 pound corner Riley received his official scholarship offer from Texas back on March 25. He has more than 30 schools on his offer sheet in total, and it was big for the Longhorns to get in his top seven.

The other six finalist schools for Riley included the Washington Huskies, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Minnesota Golden Gophers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Virginia Tech Hokies.

Other significant schools that Riley cut included the Clemson Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, Oregon Ducks, Miami Hurricanes, USC Trojans, and West Virginia Mountaineers. The programs that offered Riley did come from all over the country. Although the bulk of his finalist schools came from the ACC or Big Ten (if you’re including Notre Dame in the former for the other sports).

Riley ranks as the nation’s No. 349 2021 high school prospect, No. 26 cornerback, and No. 56 prospect out of Florida. This Valrico, FL, native did wind up cutting the last five schools that offered Riley.

Texas could use the addition of a cornerback in their 2021 recruiting class. They didn’t sign but one cornerback in the 2020 recruiting class, with four-star John Tyler product Kitan Crawford. Riley is a good underrated target that is a borderline four-star classification.
