Another solid contributor in the NBA that is still active in this day and age is the former Longhorn star point guard D.J. Augustin. Having one of the truly underappreciated two year runs with Texas men’s hoops in recent memory, Augustin deserves more recognition for what he accomplished here.

Augustin was truly a model of consistency for the Longhorns in his two years with the program. He played in 73 games during those two seasons in 2006-07 and 2007-08. And he started in every single one of those 73 games he played in. He was in the top 20 in the Big 12 in win shares and true shooting percentage both seasons, and he led the conference in assists per game each time.

KD was around for Augustin’s freshman season on the Forty Acres, but the former was a one-and-done. It would be two years before Augustin would make the leap to the NBA as an eventual first round pick in the 2008 draft. In his two seasons in college, Augustin racked up two All-Big 12 selections, All-American honors, 2008 All-Big 12 Tournament Team, and 2006-07 All-Big 12 Freshman Team honors.

In 2008, he was also a Wooden Award Finalist and took home the Bob Cousy Award as the nation’s top point guard.

In those 73 games he played in at Texas, he averaged 16.9 points per game, 2.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 1.4 steals, while shooting 44.3 percent from the field, 40.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 80.8 percent from the charity stripe. He would also amass 10.7 win shares, a 56.9 true shooting percentage, and .161 win shares per 40 minutes.
