Texas Basketball: Longhorns Mount Rushmore since 2000
Now we get to start cracking into players from the latter of the two decades since the turn of the century. Former five-star recruit (ranked among the top 15 2006 high school prospects in the nation) and Nacogdoches, TX, native 6-foot-7 forward Damion James played a full four-year career on the Forty Acres before trying to take his talents to the next level.
While James is part of the smaller pool on this list of former Longhorns that weren’t All-American selections and/or Wooden Award winners, he is one of the more accomplished all-around. James did rake in more than 20 win shares and three All-Big 12 honors over the course of his four years here.
And James was a Wooden Award Finalist during his senior season.
There are some truly impressive records and spots on all-time lists that James holds in the Big 12 and in the entire NCAA. James is still the all-time total rebounds leader in the Big 12 (1,318), and he ranks 13th in the NCAA. He’s also eighth in the Big 12 in total games played (142). He also holds a spot in the top 25 in the Big 12 in career blocks and in the top five in total win shares.
The advanced numbers were really friendly to James too during his senior season. He posted a sparkling player efficiency rating above 28 and was tops in the Big 12 in win shares per 40 minutes (.252). He also had a stellar 120 offensive and 88 defensive rating in his senior campaign.
