The first 2023 quarterback prospect to receive an offer from the 2023 Texas football recruiting class is now North Carolina native Tad Hudson.

As one of the potential rising stars of the 2023 Texas football recruiting class, and just the college football recruiting landscape in general, Williams Amos Hough pro-style quarterback Tad Hudson is starting to gain a lot of national attention. There are now more than eight schools that have sent scholarship offers to Hudson, and that list now includes Texas.

Moreover, Hudson became the first 2023 quarterback prospect to receive an offer from the Texas Longhorns football program. And he is the fourth 2023 prospect overall to get an offer from Texas. All four of those 2023 prospects play at skill positions on offense. They’ve now offered a quarterback, running back (El Campo’s Rueben Owens), and two wide receivers (Westlake’s Jaden Greathouse and University School’s Brandon Inniss).

This 6-foot-3 and 210 pound rising sophomore signal caller that is a native of Cornelius, NC, got more starts down the stretch during the 2019 season. He was called into action last season for six games, in which he amassed more than 500 passing yards, eight touchdowns through the air, and three interceptions.

The offer that Hudson received from Texas came on April 6. He has also received offers from mostly schools closer to home including the North Carolina Tar Heels, NC State Wolfpack, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Kentucky Wildcats. He also has reported scout looks from the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Hudson has two unofficial visits on his recruiting timeline since November 2019 with former Texas head coach Mack Brown and the Tar Heels. His latest visit was an unofficial with UNC back on Feb. 1. That visit came three days after he received his offer from Kentucky, which came on Jan. 29.

But he didn’t receive his offer from UNC until Feb. 20.

It looks like the Tar Heels could be a main source of competition for Hudson in the near future. Granted this is still good that offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich, head coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns are getting in this early on a fast rising recruit like Hudson.

Hudson has already competed in an Elite 11 Regional, in Atlanta back in late February. He seems to be impressing various college coaching staffs since, and doing enough to get a program halfway across the country to buy into what he brings to the table this early on.
