Texas Football: 3 best Devin Duvernay 2020 NFL Draft landing spots
1. New Orleans Saints
Last year, the New Orleans Saints didn’t have any former Longhorns wide receiver that they picked in the actual seven rounds of the NFL Draft. But after former Texas breakthrough wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey had a brutal draft scouting process, he still ended up in a good situation with the Saints as an undrafted free agent signing.
This might be the best situation for Duvernay to land in. There are multiple Texas Exes that rolled through NOLA in recent years. Humphrey and defensive tackle Malcom Brown are the two former Longhorns that are still on the Saints roster. And they can help guide Duvernay along in his early years with the franchise, if he lands with the Saints.
The Saints have a very good receiving corps at the very top, but the depth is lacking beyond the best trio. Former Ohio State Buckeye Michael Thomas forms a solid trio along with Emmanuel Sanders and Tre’Quan Smith, but they could use an upgrade beyond them. Taysom Hill, Deonte Harris, and Humphrey are some of the receivers he could be competing with.
Thomas and Sanders fill different roles than Duvernay would with the Saints. And while Thomas still has a lot of top end years of production left in the NFL, Sanders’ time is likely dwindling down. And there’s not much of an answer beyond those two. Smith is solid, but he had well under 300 receiving yards last season.
