The 2021 Texas football recruiting class will be duking it out with the Texas A&M Aggies to land the pledge of 4-Star WDE Jordon Thomas.

A key battle that is usually anticipated on the recruiting trail year in and year out in college football pits the Texas football program and the Texas A&M Aggies. While the Lone Star Showdown doesn’t occur annually on the gridiron anymore, it is a battle between two big-time programs on the recruiting trail each year.

And the battle that the Texas Longhorns football program finds themselves in with the Aggies comes to land the services of four-star Memorial weak-side defensive end Jordon Thomas. This 6-foot-3 and 240 pound Port Arthur, TX, native recently narrowed down his finalist schools to just two.

Thomas posted on his Twitter timeline on April 8 that the final recruiting battle to land his commitment will come down to Texas and Texas A&M. Prior to this social media announcement, Thomas held offers from eight schools to pick between. He has now eliminated the Baylor Bears, Houston Cougars, LSU Tigers, Southern Miss Golden Eagles, SMU Mustangs, and TCU Horned Frogs from contention.

Within the last calendar year, Thomas took a number of visits to Texas A&M. His last unofficial visit on his recruiting timeline came back on Nov. 16. He also attended a camp with Texas A&M back on June 14.

The original scholarship offer that Thomas received from Texas came on Feb. 2, 2019. Thomas also had a few spring visits to Texas, which helped to even out a bit the perception of all the attention he was giving to with visits to College Station.

Although, Thomas reportedly (247Sports paid content) doesn’t want to announce his commitment decision until near the end of the 2020 high school football season. He’s getting ready for his senior season with Memorial.

Thomas ranks as the nation’s No. 230 2021 high school prospect, No. 15 weak-side defensive end, and the No. 36 prospect out of Texas. The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions have two experts picking Texas, and no one siding with Texas A&M as of now. And the Rivals FutureCast is giving Texas the heavy edge to land Thomas’ commitment.

Texas A&M isn’t intertwined with Texas in as many recruiting battles as usual for the 2021 cycle. But that looks like it could change soon with Thomas narrowing down his finalists to just these two schools.
