The 2021 Texas football recruiting class was ousted from contention to land 4-Star LBJ CB Latrell McCutchin when he dropped his top 10 this week.

One of the bigger surprises to hit the 2021 Texas football recruiting class of late was missing out on the top 10 of a prospect right in their own backyard. Texas saw four-star LBJ cornerback Latrell McCutchin leave them out of his latest round of finalist cuts on April 6. This 6-foot-1 and 175 pound Austin, TX, native is literally right around the corner for head coach Tom Herman and co.

Yet, that doesn’t that every highly touted four-star prospect that the Texas Longhorns football program goes after is going to be interested right away. Texas obviously was not able to win over this top 100 ranked four-star local recruit.

McCutchin more specifically ranks as the nation’s No. 98 2021 high school prospect, No. 10 cornerback, and No. 14 prospect out of Texas. As the top ranked cornerback prospect out of Texas, McCutchin was about the best a the position in-state that the Longhorns could win over.

He’s a very talented and lengthy cornerback that could bring a lot to the table for recently hired defensive coordinator Chris Ash, but that won’t come to fruition at this point.

The schools that did make this latest round of finalist cuts for McCutchin included the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, Virginia Tech Hokies, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Oklahoma Sooners, Tennessee Volunteers, USC Trojans, and Ohio State Buckeyes. Oklahoma was the only Big 12 school to make it on this SEC-heavy finalist list.

McCutchin held offers from more than 30 schools when he made this round of cuts. The more significant of the offers that he cut earlier this week included the Arkansas Razorbacks, Baylor Bears, Mizzou Tigers, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Penn State Nittany Lions, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Texas A&M actually offered McCutchin on April 9, three days after dropping this finalist list without them on it.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions has 10 of 12 experts picking McCutchin to commit to Oklahoma. One of the other predictions goes with Alabama, and the last is undecided. Oklahoma is emerging as the clear favorite at this point.

The good news for Texas here is that fellow four-star cornerback target and Kimball product Ishmael Ibraheem included them in his top 10 finalists that were dropped on April 8. Texas still has a quality in-state cornerback target they’re pursuing for their 2021 recruiting class.
