3. Washington Redskins

The top positional needs for the Washington Redskins in the 2020 NFL Draft largely come in the front seven. There’s a good chance that the Redskins will wind up taking two or three players to fill various front seven positional needs in the first five rounds of this draft. Edge rusher might also be the biggest need overall for the Redskins.

Beyond the former Ohio State Buckeyes superstar defensive end Chase Young, there isn’t many elite pass rushers in this draft class. Especially compared to how stacked the defensive end and linebacker positions were in the 2019 NFL Draft class, 2020 won’t help near as many teams that have positional needs in this group.

Without any help from this year’s draft, the Redskins would be going with Jonathan Allen and Matt Ioannidis at their two defensive end spots. Anchoring the Redskins defensive line in their 3-4 defensive scheme under recently hired former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera would be former Alabama Crimson Tide nose tackle Da’Ron Payne.

While the Redskins don’t have the worst front seven in the NFC East, their depth might be the thinnest. The 2020 NFL Draft will be key for the Redskins to get right to hold up their front seven depth over the course of the next three or four years. Roach would be a good fit as an edge rusher or defensive end (if he puts on some more size while maintaining his motor off the line of scrimmage).
