Another skill position player that VY got to play with in a Longhorns uniform that mostly made a quiet impact early in his college career was former speedy wide receiver Nate Jones. Coming out of Texas High in Texarkana, TX, Jones was a highly sought after four-star recruit that also had a lot of attention coming from the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, and Florida Gators, among others.

Jones joined the 2004 Texas recruiting class, and wouldn’t get a big role right out of the gates. His first year on campus would be the first that VY really got to assume the role as starting quarterback. Jones would nab seven catches for 73 yards and no touchdowns in his freshman season.

The following three seasons would then see Jones come up with around 90 catches for over 1,000 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns. His best season came in his final year on the Forty Acres, in 2007, where he registered 70 catches for 795 receiving yards and four touchdowns. His best years would come with Colt McCoy under center.

Some of the best games of Jones’ career would come against the TCU Horned Frogs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Iowa State Cyclones, and Baylor. There wasn’t any single opponent that he racked up more than 200 career receiving yards or more than two touchdown catches against. His production was spread out pretty evenly among the Big 12 opposing defenses.
