3. Cleveland Browns

There was a lot of turnover at the safety position for the Cleveland Browns since the outset of the 2020 offseason. A youth movement built through the NFL Draft, starting this year, would be a great help to a Browns organization that still needs to maintain an outlook to long-term success. The pressure built from last season’s letdown matters, but the long haul does too.

The Browns have to recover from the extreme disappointment that was their 2019 season. As one of the favorites to contend for the NFC North division crown last season out of the gates, the Browns had a lot of tools to reach that goal. But former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and Georgia running back Nick Chubb (among others) just couldn’t help their team get it done in the end.

A number of problems on the defensive side of the ball also plagued the Browns last season. They couldn’t overcome a Pittsburgh Steelers team that got hot down the stretch and the Baltimore Ravens, who torched the rest of the NFL during the regular season. A defense that ranked 20th in points allowed per game and 22nd in yards allowed needs help this year.

If Jones were to land with the Browns, he could have a path to making an early impact at the next level. He’d be competing with the likes of either J.T. Hassell or Sheldrick Redwine for safety reps behind the projected starters Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo. The Browns landed Joseph over from the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and Sendejo from the Minnesota Vikings.
