5. Florida Gators

While the Florida Gators and the Longhorns have not met all that much on the gridiron in the history of the two programs, it was usually one sided when they did. In the two seasons leading up to the United States’ involvement in World War II, the Longhorns would take down this opponent by a margin of 38 points combined in consecutive seasons.

The first time that Texas and Florida met goes all the way back to the 1924 season. When Texas and Florida squared off in 1924, it resulted in a 7-7 tie. Florida was still a very new program in their first 15 years since its founding. They would finish with a record of 6-2-1 under former head coach J.A. Van Fleet.

The other two matchups that would take place between Texas and Florida would come in 1939 and 1940. Meetings between these two blue bloods would end after the 1940 college football season. But Texas and Florida will meet once again on the gridiron during the regular season nearly 100 years after the last time they played in back to back seasons, in 2030 and 2031.

A front-end of a home-and-home series in 2030 and 2031 is set to pit Texas on the road in The Swamp against the Gators. Texas will return home to face Florida during the 2031 season in Austin. This should cap a season where the Longhorns will have faced a blue blood SEC opponent for four straight years. Texas faces the Georgia Bulldogs in 2028 and 2029.
