Texas Football: 5 blue bloods Longhorns had most success against
3. Texas A&M Aggies
Here’s the rivalry that everyone in the Big 12, especially in the state of Texas, wants back in this day and age. The Lone Star Showdown takes place between the Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies. It used to be an annual tradition for Texas and Texas A&M to face each other in the Lone Star Showdown each Thanksgiving.
But now Texas usually faces the likes of the Kansas Jayhawks or Texas Tech Red Raiders during Thanksgiving Week. Texas hasn’t taken on Texas A&M in the Lone Star Showdown since the latter of the two schools bolted for the SEC in 2012. They last faced each other in 2011, to the tune of a Texas victory by the final score of 27-25 in College Station.
The all-time series between Texas and Texas A&M favors the Longhorns, with a record of 76-37-5. Texas won three of the last four meetings against their hated in-state rivals before the rivalry would be placed on pause. The last Texas A&M victory came in 2010, when Garrett Gilbert and Mack couldn’t overcome the Aggies in Austin.
The first meeting in this rivalry would take place in 1894, with Texas getting the edge over Texas A&M by the final score of 38-0. Here’s a chronicle on the first and last meetings between the Longhorns and Aggies from back in 2011, thanks to SB Nation.
The longest win streak would be given to the Longhorns, by getting the edge in 10 straight from 1957-1966.
I know that a lot of Longhorns fans will get unseated by me saying that Texas A&M is even a blue blood in the first place. But if we’re expanding the list of college football blue blood programs beyond 10-15 schools, then Texas A&M should be included.
Former Texas quarterbacks like Colt McCoy and Vince Young would have their way with Texas A&M throughout most of their tenure on the Forty Acres in recent history too.
