3. Kansas City Chiefs

While the reigning Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs aren’t going to have a whole lot of stock in how the early rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft play out, they could use this opportunity to stock up depth to protect their best future asset. Former Texas Tech Red Raiders superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes just took home his first MVP honors one year ago.

The Chiefs didn’t do the best job protecting Mahomes over the course of the last two seasons. How quickly he gets rid of the ball and how fleet of foot he is, combined with the high-paced scheme ran under Chiefs head coach Andy Reid helps to escape some of the flaws of a pretty bad offensive line, all things considered.

This is not going to be the deepest draft class along the interior offensive line, which is why the Chiefs could dig deep to find more answers with prospects like Shackelford. Out of the gate, Shackelford very likely wouldn’t be able to come in and replace the likes of projected starting Chiefs center Austin Reiter or either of their two starting guards.

However, the Chiefs could use added depth that is versatile and can play multiple positions effectively when healthy like Shackelford. The Chiefs allowed 25 sacks last season, which isn’t that high of a number. But when opposition like the Indianapolis Colts last season comes to Kansas City and decimates Mahomes and the offensive line, the coaching staff will need another solution to turn to.
