Another big loss for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class came with 4-Star DE Tunmise Adeleye committing to Ohio State on April 15.

The misses on the defensive side of the ball on the recruiting trail continued for the Texas football program for their 2021 and 2022 classes of late. Last week, Texas lost the commitment of four-star Aledo safety Bryan Allen Jr. to head coach Ed Orgeron and the defending National Champion LSU Tigers.

Turn the page to this week, and the Texas Longhorns football program lost out on the commitment of four-star IMG Academy 6-foot-3 and 240 pound strong-side defensive end Tunmise Adeleye to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Adeleye was one of the most notable defensive targets for the Longhorns and their 2021 recruiting class for at least two years now.

What hurts by losing the commitment of Adeleye to head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes is that this is the second top 50 prospect in a matter of one month this happened for. Ohio State also nabbed the commitment of five-star Hopewell running back TreVeyon Henderson last month, who was a key skill position target for Texas this cycle.

Moreover, the combination of losing Allen Jr. and Adeleye makes it two top 50 prospects that Texas lost that could be game-changers on the defensive side of the ball. Adeleye had a lot of attention on the recruiting trail from all over the Big 12.

Adeleye dropped his commitment on his Twitter timeline on April 15, giving Ohio State fans some good news.

The final set of 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions for Adeleye had him projected to land with the Oklahoma Sooners over the likes of Texas and the Alabama Crimson Tide. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, Ohio State continues to hang onto the top spot in the national class rankings for the 2021 cycle.

Texas now ranks outside the top 10 ranked classes in the nation, sliding down to No. 13. They do still own the top spot in the Big 12 recruiting rankings.

Adeleye ranks as the nation’s No. 41 2021 high school prospect, No. 4 strong-side defensive end, and No. 8 prospect out of Florida. He held more than 30 schools on his offer sheet before making his commitment decision on April 15.

The highlights of the non-aforementioned schools that offered him includes the Auburn Tigers, Baylor Bears, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, TCU Horned Frogs, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans. There were a lot of blue bloods that sent scholarship offers his way.

The last visit that Adeleye took before committing to Ohio State was with head coach Dan Mullen and the Gators back on March 7. He was also on campus with Florida for Junior Day back on Feb. 1. Texas hosted Adeleye for an unofficial visit on Jan. 18.

Texas offered Adeleye a while back. But that didn’t mean much in the end. At one point Texas looked like they had good positioning to land Adeleye, as did Alabama. Last summer, Adeleye had named Alabama his leader. In the end, he adds to the growing super-class that the Buckeyes are building during the 2021 cycle right now.
