Texas Football: 3 most exciting players from Longhorns 2019 team
2. Devin Duvernay, Wide Receiver
The most productive wide receiver for the Longhorns for the second straight season wasn’t the one that most figured it would be during the preseason. Former senior towering 6-foot-6 Texas wideout Collin Johnson had a lot of hype around him heading into the 2018 and 2019 seasons. But various injuries limited him throughout.
Johnson peaked in terms of his production during his junior campaign, when he finished up with just shy of 1,000 receiving yards. Last season, he really took a backseat to fellow senior wide receiver Devin Duvernay, though. Duvernay was a true star and breakthrough passing game target for Ehlinger.
As the Texas Ex that could very well be the first player out of the program taken off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft, Duvernay proved his value during his final year on the Forty Acres. He registered more than 100 catches, for 1,386 yards and 10 total touchdowns. Despite hauling in 106 receptions, Duvernay still managed to averaged more than 13.0 yards per catch.
Although Duvernay became more of a reliable passing game target for the Longhorns last season, he still kept his deep threat and speedy receiver tag that made him so potent for his first few years in college. A solid run in the NFL Combine and Senior Bowl also will help one of the most exciting Longhorns in recent memory at any skill position jump up draft boards next week.
