Boosting the projected rotation of the Texas softball program early in the 2020 offseason, help arrives in the form of Ole Miss transfer Molly Jacobsen.

A nice addition for the Texas softball program that was announced on April 21, the No. 1 ranked program in the nation from the 2020 season that was cut short will be getting help from the Ole Miss Rebels coaching staff. Texas landed graduate transfer and rising senior left-handed pitcher Molly Jacobsen to bolster their staff heading into the 2021 season.

What the Texas Longhorns softball program will be getting out of Jacobsen is an Adel, IA, native and Des Moines Area Community College product that had a solid 2020 season before it was cut short due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Jacobsen was named to the All-SEC Second Team and NFCA All-Second Team South Region in 2019.

Although her stat line from this past season wasn’t as good as it was in 2019. She finished up with a record of 5-6 in 14 appearances, 3.42 earned run average, three complete games, one shutout, one save, and 64 strikeouts in 71.2 innings pitched.

Compare that to her 2019 campaign where she finished with a record of 14-8 in 35 appearances, 2.15 ERA, 166 strikeouts, 11 complete games, four shutouts, four saves, and just 150 hits allowed, and you can see where her true potential lies. Get the type of production that she showed in 2019, and the Longhorns will strike gold with this haul from the transfer market.

Moreover, Jacobsen played two seasons at Des Moines Area CC. She was a very accomplished JUCO pitcher earning two First-Team All-American honors, NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Year, and ICCAC Female Athlete of the Year in 2019.

Texas could use another proven arm in the rotation, but should be absolutely loaded next season. The reigning Softball America Player of the Year and senior pitcher Miranda Elish announced on her Twitter timeline on March 30 that she would be returning to the Forty Acres for “one more year with my girls”.

Ole Miss finished up their 2020 season that was cut short due to COVID-19 with a rather mediocre record of 12-13 (0-3 SEC). Meanwhile, Texas finished up with the No. 1 ranking in the final polls and with a record of 24-3. They would not get to play in their Big 12 opener before the regular season was called off.
