A big loss to the 2021 Texas football recruiting class came on April 23 with 4-Star Aledo WR JoJo Earle committing to the LSU Tigers.

The biggest blow in a while to any of the skill positions in the 2021 Texas football recruiting class was dealt on April 23, with four-star 5-foot-9 and 170 pound Aledo wide receiver JoJo Earle announcing his commitment elsewhere. Head coach Tom Herman and his Texas staff figured out on Thursday morning that they would miss out on the in-state highly touted wideout product to the likes of the defending National Champion LSU Tigers.

A potential visit to campus this fall could’ve played a big role in the Texas Longhorns football program winning over more of the interests of Earle. The Longhorns do have a marquee matchup set for this coming season against LSU, that is supposed to be held in Baton Rouge (barring any limitations from the novel coronavirus pandemic).

On the morning of April 23, Earle announced his commitment decision to give the good news to head coach Ed Orgeron and LSU on his Twitter timeline. He picked LSU over offers from 26 other schools, including one from Texas. Other significant schools he picked LSU over included the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Baylor Bears, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Tennessee Volunteers, and Texas A&M Aggies.

A lot of the top college football programs around the country had sent scholarship offers to Earle. He received his offer from the Longhorns back on Nov. 17, 2018. Texas had been on him for a while and they were one of the first five schools to offer him.

And Earle was being recruited from Texas specifically by recently promoted wide receivers coach Andre Coleman and recently hired cornerbacks coach Jay Valai.

Earle ranks as the nation’s No. 72 2021 high school prospect, No. 13 wide receiver, and No. 10 prospect out of Texas. Losing this type of skill position talent does hurt for the Longhorns since Herman needs to do the best he can to keep these types of prospects in-state.

Texas is still without a true wide receiver commitment in the 2021 recruiting class. Earle was one of their biggest targets at the position for this recruiting cycle, so losing him does impact this class in a big way.
