Texas Football: 3 reasons why the Colts should draft Devin Duvernay
1. Help needed in the Colts receiving corps
Potentially the biggest positional need that the Colts need to address in the 2020 NFL Draft is wide receiver. The Colts have a bona fide star in Hilton, and a possible talent on the rise with the former Old Dominion Monarchs wide receiver Zach Pascal. Last season, Pascal was the Colts leading receiver (in terms of receiving yards). Former Ohio State Buckeyes star wideout Parris Campbell is also an interesting piece of the receiving corps.
Duvernay could compete for a starting job in this receiving corps right away if the Colts were to land him on day two of this year’s draft. He would join the likes of fellow former Longhorn wide receiver Marcus Johnson and Ashton Dulin to start getting more and more snaps as the coming season moves along.
Either Duvernay or Johnson would help this Colts receiving corps out greatly. There is a real chance that the Colts use two of their seven draft picks on days two and three to pick up potent receivers like Duvernay. There was only two wideouts that even amassed more than 500 receiving yards for the Colts last season.
The depth and proven production at the top just aren’t there for the Colts as the roster stands now. And the Colts didn’t get to take any wide receivers that were at the top of draft boards in round one like former Oklahoma Sooner CeeDee Lamb, or the pair of former Alabama Crimson Tide wideouts Henry Ruggs and Jerry Jeudy.
