Texas Football: 3 reasons why Vikings should draft Malcolm Roach
The need is there for the Minnesota Vikings to select former Texas football defensive end/edge rusher Malcolm Roach in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Day three of the 2020 NFL Draft should be very important for a number of former members of the Texas football program. Two Texas Exes were picked on day two of the NFL Draft, both in the third round. Those two Texas Exes picked in the third round of this draft were safety Brandon Jones (to the Miami Dolphins 70th overall) and wide receiver Devin Duvernay (to the Baltimore Ravens 92nd overall).
This left the likes of towering 6-foot-6 wide receiver Collin Johnson, athletic 6-foot-3 defensive end/edge rusher Malcolm Roach, and experienced center Zach Shackelford as the three Texas Exes to watch in rounds four through seven. Johnson looked like he could be one of the draft’s biggest day three steals. As of the beginning of the fifth round, he is still on the board.
But Duvernay and Jones were selected around where they were projected to go in the middle rounds.
It now feels like the two Texas Exes that should be guaranteed to fall off draft boards before the end of round seven are Johnson and Roach. Offensive linemen like Shackelford and former graduate transfer offensive guard Parker Braun are two names to watch that could potentially fall in the last two rounds.
Moreover, Roach will be an interesting case since he could go as early as the fifth round and as late as the seventh. He should obviously fall to a team that has an abundance of day three picks and need an edge rusher.
That team could be the Minnesota Vikings. Here’s a look into three reasons why the Vikings should draft the former defensive end out of the Texas Longhorns football program Malcolm Roach on day three.
