A very promising class could be coming out of the Texas football program (including early declarees) for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Since the 2020 NFL Draft is now in the rear view mirror, we’re already going to start seeing the way-too-early 2021 mock drafts dropping from various media outlets. The 2020 NFL Draft was better to Texas than 2019 was, with three prospects getting picked up on day two and three.

The rise back to prominence on the national scene for Texas and head coach Tom Herman should go hand-in-hand with a much improved track of prospects going from college to the NFL. Texas had a pretty embarrassing turnout in the NFL Draft in recent years, especially with their 2019 class.

In the 2019 NFL Draft, Texas didn’t have a single prospect selected out of the program until the fifth round, when the Houston Texans picked up defensive end Charles Omenihu. The results for Texas Exes were a bit better in this year’s draft, with two prospects going in the third round. The Baltimore Ravens would get wide receiver Devin Duvernay 92nd overall, and the Miami Dolphins would pick safety Brandon Jones 70th overall.

The other of three Texas Exes picked in the 2020 NFL Draft is 6-foot-6 sizable wide receiver Collin Johnson, who landed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round (165th overall). There was a point when Johnson was considered to be a potential first round pick in this draft, which does show how fast it can all change.

How will that thought impact what happens for eventual Texas Exes in the 2021 NFL Draft class?

Here’s a look into the definitive Hook’Em Headlines way-too-early predictions for players out of the Texas Longhorns football program who could be going to the next level come the 2021 NFL Draft.
