Texas Football: Grading landing spots for Longhorn undrafted free agents
Now that the 2020 NFL Draft is over, former Texas football players are starting to figure out where they could still make a roster at the next level.
With the 2020 NFL Draft officially in the books, the Texas football program can reflect on a slightly better class than it had the year before. The 2020 NFL Draft saw three Texas Exes selected in the actual seven rounds (which was lower than originally expected). But two of the three were picked up on day two of the festivities, which is higher than any other Texas Ex was picked last year.
The three Texas Exes picked in the 2020 NFL Draft were safety Brandon Jones (to the Miami Dolphins 70th overall), wide receiver Devin Duvernay (to the Baltimore Ravens 92nd overall), and wide receiver Collin Johnson (to the Jacksonville Jaguars 165th overall). Jones and Duvernay were both selected on day two, in the third round, while Johnson was the final Texas Ex off the board in the fifth round on day three.
Jones and Duvernay were a little higher than expected, but not much, and Johnson went a good amount later than he was projected to. Johnson looked to be a projected fourth round pick, early fifth at the latest, in this draft.
There are currently two players from Texas that are signed down in the NFL as undrafted free agents. Those two include defensive end/edge rusher Malcolm Roach and center Zach Shackelford. There could still be a number of Texas Exes waiting for the call to get their shot at the next level.
Here’s a look into the definitive grades, as it stands now, for the undrafted free agent signings this year out of the Texas Longhorns football program.
