Pick Analysis. Defensive End/Edge Rusher. player. Scouting Report. Senior. Malcolm Roach. 1. 15

Both former Longhorns that have been signed down at the next level thus far are going to be trying to make their way in the NFC South. While Shackelford could be blocking for the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback and former Patriot Brady, former Longhorn defensive end Roach will be joining a few college teammates with the New Orleans Saints.

The former three-star strong-side defensive end recruit and Baton Rouge, LA, native will be going back to his home state to try and make an NFL roster. Roach will also be joining the likes of former Longhorn wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey and defensive tackle Malcom Brown.

Even on the surface, this looks like the perfect landing spot for Roach. And the Saints get a true bargain in a player that was supposed to be a late round pick in Roach.

During his college career with the Longhorns, Roach registered 130 total tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 8.0 sacks, and three pass deflections. There is more than enough versatility in Roach’s game to fit in at three or four different positions in this Saints defense. Head coach Sean Payton is getting a good one in Roach.

The Saints will have a few defensive ends fighting for snaps and additional playing time this coming season. That will include former late risers in the NFL Draft like Noah Spence and Marcus Davenport, and other capable edge rushers like Craig Robertson and Trey Hendrickson. And the Saints were only working with four picks in this draft, so Roach has a real shot at making this roster.
