Three former Texas football standouts were selected in the 2020 NFL Draft. How do their landing spots grade out in terms of fit?

The 2020 NFL Draft is now in the books, and three players out of the Texas football program were selected in the process. This was one more Texas Ex selected in the NFL Draft this year compared to last, which is a slow sign of progress in the transition off the Forty Acres to the pros.

In the 2019 NFL Draft, the first Texas Ex off the board was defensive end Charles Omenihu (selected in the fifth round by the Houston Texans). The only other Texas Ex selected in the 2019 NFL Draft was cornerback Kris Boyd (selected in seventh round by Minnesota Vikings). Any other former players from Texas were signed as undrafted free agents last year.

The 2019 draft did seem like a new low for this Texas program. But head coach Tom Herman does appear to have this program on track to start producing more NFL-caliber talent in the near future. One of the day two picks in this draft was a direct result of the rejuvenated numbers in the Texas passing game under Herman’s wing.

So far, Texas had two players signed as undrafted free agents, beyond the three players actually drafted on day two and three. Those two former Texas players signed as undrafted free agents to cap the weekend includes defensive end Malcolm Roach (New Orleans Saints) and center Zach Shackelford (Tampa Bay Buccaneers).

Nevertheless, here’s a deeper dive into the definitive grades for the landing spots of the three former players out of the Texas Longhorns football program who were selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.
