Texas Football: 3 updated NCAA Transfer Portal Longhorns targets
A true gem is going to be picked up by some suitor in the near future if the former Ohio State Buckeyes rising sophomore skill position weapon Jaelen Gill gets picked up anytime soon. Gill is just one of those cases of a player who couldn’t find his way in a crowded wide receiver room with a top program like Ohio State.
Head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes are surely finding more success on the recruiting trail of late compared to any other college football program in the entire country. Ohio State has the top ranked 2021 recruiting class in the nation at the moment, by a large margin (per 247Sports Team Composite Rankings). They have already landed three five-star commits and 12 four-stars in the 2021 class.
However, Gill is that potential hidden gem that could be a result of spillover of excessive depth out of Columbus at the skill positions. His name appeared in the transfer portal earlier this month, and the Longhorns should be all over pursuing him. Especially given that recently hired offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich was just with Gill as Ohio State’s passing game coordinator last year.
In just bits and pieces of five games played over the course of two seasons with the Buckeyes, Gill registered seven catches for 62 yards and one touchdown. His first career touchdown came in a win last fall over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Gill was a very highly touted five-star recruit coming out of Westerville South High School in Westerville, OH. He ranked as the nation’s No. 30 2018 high school prospect, No. 2 all-purpose running back, and No. 2 prospect out of Ohio.
