Former Michigan WR Tarik Black will now be taking his talents from Ann Arbor and “The Big House” to the Forty Acres and the Texas football program.

A huge get for the Texas football program out of the NCAA Transfer Portal on April 28, with the announcement that former Michigan Wolverines wide receiver Tarik Black would take his talents to the Forty Acres. This is the latest addition for head coach Tom Herman, as he continues to turn to the transfer portal for answers for various positional needs.

Last offseason, Herman turned to the portal to haul in former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets graduate transfer All-ACC offensive guard Parker Braun to add depth in the trenches. Two years ago, the Texas Longhorns football program would get former Rice Owls offensive tackle Calvin Anderson and Cal Golden Bears running back Tre Watson as grad transfers to make an immediate impact.

Landing the former Wolverine Black is the fourth get out of the transfer portal in the last three offseasons for Herman and the Longhorns. He’ll have one more year of eligibility left after spending three seasons in Ann Arbor.

Black announced his intentions to take his talents from Ann Arbor to Austin on his Twitter timeline on the night of April 28. Tuesday night would deliver great news in the second of just three days for the future of the Longhorns receiving corps. Texas would also get help for the future of its receiving corps by landing three-star Atascocita tight end Landen King on April 26.

There was no guarantee that Black was going to choose the Longhorns, though.

The latest 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions for Black in the transfer portal would pick him to land with the Boston College Eagles over the Longhorns. That sole pick for Black to choose the Eagles over the Longhorns did come from a Boston College insider.

From his three years under head coach Jim Harbaugh with the Michigan program, Black hauled in 40 receptions for 507 yards and two touchdowns. Injuries would be a constant problem for him over the course of his first two years in Ann Arbor. He would only play in six games combined in his first two seasons with the Wolverines.

Coming out of Cheshire Academy in Connecticut back during the 2017 recruiting cycle, Black ranked as the nation’s No. 116 high school prospect, No. 15 wide receiver, and No. 1 prospect in the state. He had offers from the likes of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, and Georgia Bulldogs before announcing his commitment to Michigan.

dark. Next. 3 transfer portal targets Texas should pursue now

Texas finished up their 2019 season with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12) after an Alamo Bowl win over the Utah Utes on New Year’s Eve by the final score of 38-10. They will be hoping that the addition of Black can help to push them over the top and reach the double-digit win mark again this coming season.
