1. Sam Ehlinger needs as much help as possible

This Texas team should be very stocked with talent on both sides of the ball. The excuses would be running out for Herman and the Longhorns to fall short of expectations (at least nine or 10 wins) this coming season. Texas did get away with winning eight games last season, but that won’t fly again this year.

That puts a lot of pressure on the shoulders of rising senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger. As the top returning quarterback in the Big 12 this year, Ehlinger could be facing his first season as a potential Heisman finalist. He’ll need a solid supporting cast to step up to the plate if he’s going to pull that off.

In the backfield, Texas will be mainly running with a trio that features junior Keaontay Ingram, sophomore Roschon Johnson, and incoming freshman former five-star recruit Bijan Robinson. There should be no issue with the ground game, as long as the offensive line holds up. Both Roschon and Keaontay averaged well over five yards per carry last season.

The offensive line is going to be a huge key for making this offense go in the coming season. That was a big letdown for the Longhorns last season, who led the Big 12 in sacks allowed (in a bad way) for much of the 2019 campaign. Ehlinger was sacked well over 30 times last season.

But at least having a sizable and capable blocker in the receiving corps that should also spread out the field, with Black, is a great addition to the Texas offense.
