Who will be the next five-star commitment (and the second in total) in the 2021 Texas football recruiting class as the offseason chugs along?

A lengthy stretch of time for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class to go without landing a single commitment ensued until a notable announcement last weekend. Texas landed a commitment from three-star Atascocita tight end Landen King to break a string of more than six months without adding to the 2021 recruiting class.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 recruiting class for Texas ranks at No. 15 in the nation. Landing King got head coach Tom Herman and his 2021 group back in the top 15 of the national class rankings. For much of last year, Texas owned on of the top 10 ranked 2021 recruiting classes in the nation. But a slow winter and early spring can be a big detriment to the slotting for Texas in the national class rankings.

Texas still ranks as the top recruiting class in the Big 12 for the 2021 cycle. They are outpacing the likes of the Oklahoma Sooners and West Virginia Mountaineers, who are the next two best 2021 class in the Big 12.

And the highest ranked commitment in the 2021 recruiting class for Texas thus far is five-star Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders. Four-star Sanders teammate and 5-foot-10 athlete Billy Bowman Jr. is close to getting that fifth star too. He ranks among the top 40 2021 high school prospects in the nation.

There’s a lot of potential in this 2021 recruiting class, but Texas needs to add more quantity. Quantity over quality shouldn’t be the approach, but they need more than the seven commits currently in the 2021 class.

Here’s a look into the candidates up to be the next five-star commitment in the 2021 recruiting class for the Texas Longhorns football program this offseason.
