Other names to watch

With so much young talent, but very little of it proven in game action, the Longhorns receiving corps will have to figure out its configuration quickly this coming season. Texas will need to sort out which of their young receivers fit best in which spots. Here’s those key names to watch that could be dark horse top producers this coming season.

Jordan Whittington, Redshirt Freshman

A quality dark horse candidate for the Longhorns to get a true breakthrough from this fall will be the former converted running back and five-star Cuero High School recruit Jordan Whittington. Last year, Herman moved Whittington to running back to fill depth in the backfield. But Whittington will be back at the original position he was recruited to play with Texas.

Joshua Moore, Sophomore

Back from a year away from the Longhorns due to off-the-field issues, rising sophomore wide receiver Joshua Moore is coming back into a good situation. He could have a starting role right out of the gates if he plays his cards right. Moore will need a strong start to the 2020 season, though, if he is to solidify a starting role over the long haul. He doesn’t have much proven production from his freshman season.

Marcus Washington, Sophomore

The darkest of all dark horses on this list is the rising sophomore former four-star recruit Marcus Washington. During his freshman campaign last season, Washington only amassed three receptions for 33 receiving yards and no touchdowns. He should see an expanded role this coming season. He does have underrated speed and is one of the better route runners among the younger wide receivers for the Longhorns.
