In the 2018 Sugar Bowl, the Longhorns would have to take on the Georgia Bulldogs. Coming into this game, Georgia had a bevy of NFL talent and was the No. 5 ranked team in the nation. This looked to be a daunting task for Herman and the Longhorns. But the men in burnt orange were up to it, and more, in the end.

The final score of 28-21 didn’t describe how close this game really was between Texas and Georgia. The former of which gained control of this game right from the word go. Texas got off and running with a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Ehlinger and the Longhorns would take a commanding 20-7 lead into the locker room at halftime too.

This was almost an unbelievable sight to behold since there was a lot of discussion surrounding how Georgia was supposed to be in the College Football Playoff instead of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In the College Football Playoff semifinals that year, Notre Dame got ran out of the building by the eventual National Champion Clemson Tigers (but so did every team that faced them down the stretch in 2018).

Ehlinger registered more than 225 total yards and three touchdowns (all on the ground). His toughness didn’t waiver as the Longhorns held on through a late push from Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm’s three passing touchdowns. Texas saw a brilliant outing from their defense, holding Georgia’s strong rushing attack under 2.5 yards per carry.

Georgia came into this game as whopping 13.5-point favorites. Texas really flipped the script on them here.
