Texas Football: Ranking 5 best QB’s coached by Tom Herman
The Texas football head coach Tom Herman has coached up an impressive group of quarterbacks in limited time as a Power Five HC or OC.
Entering his fourth year on the Forty Acres, head Texas football coach Tom Herman is hoping to elevate his team’s play on the gridiron compared to their result from a season ago. He will surely have a good quarterback to try and improve this coming season, though.
One of the reputations that Herman got early in his coaching career at the college ranks is somewhat of a quarterback whisperer. He was able to coach up star quarterbacks at a number of his different landing spots, especially with Texas and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Herman also powered up a better than expected offense for the Iowa State Cyclones from 2009-2011. He was Iowa State’s offensive coordinator for those three years, just like he was on the Ohio State coaching staff from 2012-2014. He would then land the head coaching job with the Houston Cougars ahead of the start of the 2015 season.
Moreover, Herman would become one of the most highly sought after Power Five head coaching candidates during his two years with Houston. He would land the Texas head coaching job in December 2016, to replace former head coach Charlie Strong.
In this piece, we’re taking a look back at the best quarterbacks that were ever coached up by Tom Herman, whether it was as an offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, or head coach. His days on staffs like those of the Texas State Bobcats, Rice Owls, and FCS Sam Houston State aren’t really counted here, though, since the quarterback talent didn’t measure up with the likes of Texas, Ohio State, and Houston.
Here’s a look back at the five best college quarterbacks that were ever coached up by the current head coach of the Texas Longhorns football program Tom Herman.
