That three-headed monster that head coach Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes had at the quarterback position when they won the first ever national title of the College Football Playoff-era was truly a sight to behold. Ohio State won a National Championship by running with three different starting quarterbacks in one season.

The latter of the three, and the one that would wind up winning the national title during the 2014 season is the towering 6-foot-5 and 250 pound dual-threat signal caller Cardale Jones. The total career production for Jones in Columbus won’t blow anyone away, but he was the best when the Buckeyes needed it most.

That’s what made Jones so special, and what got him on this list in the first place.

During his three years playing with Ohio State, Jones registered 2,322 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also added 617 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Jones’ career passer efficiency rating sat at 147.4 and he tallied up 8.6 adjusted passing yards per attempt.

The main reason why Jones made the back end of this list over another Herman-coached quarterback like Shane Buechele is the fact that he did win a national title and performed best when it mattered most. Jones was also recruited while Herman was the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in Columbus. That does provide some bonus points.
