If Tom Herman wants to still add a second quarterback to his 2021 Texas football recruiting class, the options are starting to dwindle down.

A big run for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class in the last 10 days marked the end to a very silent period on the recruiting trail in the prior six or eight months. Texas went through a hot stretch on the recruiting trail for their 2021 class late last summer and into the fall. But it stopped there until about a week ago.

Texas is now up to eight commits in their 2021 recruiting class. Head coach Tom Herman is starting to see his new-look coaching staff pick up more momentum on the recruiting trail once again. There was bound to be a slow down given all the staff turnover Herman enacted at the conclusion of the 2019 regular season.

Their two latest came from four-star Memorial weak-side defensive end Jordon Thomas and three-star Atascocita tight end Landen King. They managed to land Thomas on May 2 over the rival Texas A&M Aggies and King is a very underrated prospect that could see a prominent rise in the recruiting rankings in the near future.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class is up to No. 12 in the nation and still in the top spot in the Big 12. One of the biggest parts of Texas’ 2021 recruiting class is four-star Katy-Tompkins dual-threat quarterback Jalen Milroe, who ranks as one of the top 80 2021 high school prospects in the nation.

Quarterback is going to be an important position to get right in the 2021 class most notably due to the addition of offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich. There should be a new-look offense drastically different than what Herman had running while former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tim Beck was at the helm in Austin.

It might be best for Texas to take on two quarterbacks in their 2021 class since Yurcich is now on board with the coaching staff.

Here’s a look into the three best remaining quarterbacks targets for the Texas Longhorns football program in their 2021 recruiting class at this point in time.
