One big recent addition to the receiving corps for the Texas football program this offseason could change the look of much of the two-deep.

A topic of much speculation of late for the coming season for the Texas football program will be what head coach Tom Herman and recently hired offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich will get out of their receiving corps. Texas just had a nice get out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, and the 2020 signing class did at least see a few potential solid wideouts committed.

The two most proven wide receivers from the 2019 Texas group are on their way to the next level, though. Texas lost their star senior due at wide receiver, Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay, to the 2020 NFL Draft since both ran out of eligibility. That makes Texas’ three most productive wide receivers, by a good margin, from the last two seasons now playing in the NFL.

The other that is gone is the 2018 breakthrough wideout Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who declared one year early for the NFL Draft last offseason.

Since Texas needs a new wave of talent to step up in place of the likes of Humphrey, Johnson, and Duvernay, we’re going to see some prominent new faces this coming season in the passing game. Rising senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger will need to find a reliable new set of targets in the passing game.

Outside of what they pulled from the transfer portal late last month, Texas doesn’t have any rising seniors in the receiving corps. The experience is lacking, but the talent is clearly there. This is just a matter of who will step up when Texas needs it most.

Here’s a look into how the wide receiver depth chart will stack up for the Texas Longhorns football program this coming season.
